Google Just Confirmed the Fitbit Edge Lands Monday, October 12

The guessing is over. Google dropped an official teaser for the Fitbit Edge on Friday and put a date on it: Monday, October 12.

The post is short, the way teasers are supposed to be. "Get an Edge on your health. 10.12.2026," the Google Health account wrote on X and Instagram, alongside a close-up of the hardware. That single line does a lot of work. It confirms the Edge name after weeks of leaks, and it pins the launch to this coming Monday.

What the Teaser Actually Shows

There is not much to the image, but there is enough. The Edge has a metal chassis, which lines up with the metal side strips that showed up in the earlier renders. The colorway looks like the Canyon finish Google has been pushing across the Pixel lineup, so the Edge is going to match the Pixel Watch 5 sitting next to it on the shelf.

You can also make out the edge of a display. That matters because it is the whole reason this device exists.

Why the Edge Is a Bigger Deal Than It Looks

Google's tracker lineup has been a mess for years, and the Edge is the first product that suggests someone finally drew it on paper.

The Fitbit Air, which launched earlier this year, went in the opposite direction and dropped the screen entirely. The Pixel Watch 5 sits at the top with Wear OS, Gemini and the full app stack. The Edge lands right in the middle, a traditional Fitbit band with a screen, GPS and the week-long battery a real smartwatch cannot touch.

If you have been following this one, none of that is new. We named the Edge back on October 4 when retail renders surfaced, and it matched the Google model G8BL6 we had already tracked through FCC and IMDA paperwork. No Wi-Fi, no cellular, a screen and GNSS. A band that leans on your phone, exactly as rumored.

What changed Friday is that Google stopped pretending it was a rumor.

The Specs Pointing to Monday

The leaked spec sheet has firmed up over the past week, and it is a genuinely odd mix for a mid-range band.

  • Display: a 1.34-inch always-on AMOLED screen
  • Battery: up to seven days, with a replaceable battery design
  • Positioning: built-in GPS and an altimeter
  • Sensors: SpO2, skin temperature, and support for more than 40 exercise modes
  • Health extras: software that extrapolates insulin resistance and blood pressure data
  • Software: Gemini integration, with Android and iPhone support
  • Price: reports cluster around $180, with European leaks near 179 euros

That replaceable battery is the detail worth sitting with. Fitbit trackers have never been a repair-it-yourself product, and a swappable cell would push back on the one complaint that has followed the Charge line for years. Treat it as a leak until Monday, because Google has said nothing about hardware on that level.

The blood pressure and insulin resistance features deserve the same caution. Reading those signals off a wrist band is hard, and Google has not explained how the Edge pulls it off.

What Monday Needs to Answer

Three things are still open, and Monday should settle them.

First, the price. If the Edge really lands near $180, it slots neatly between the $100 Air and the $350-and-up Pixel Watch 5, and it undercuts the Charge 6 sitting on sale right now.

Second, the lineup question. Everything so far points to the Edge replacing the Charge line rather than living beside it. If that is the plan, the Charge 6 is about to become a clearance item.

Third, the launch itself. Google has confirmed a date but not whether Monday is an announcement, a preorder window or straight-to-shelf availability. Those are three very different things for anyone waiting on one.

Bottom Line

Google has spent two years making its wearables harder to explain, not easier. A tidy Air, Edge and Pixel Watch ladder is the first time the strategy has looked deliberate, and the Edge is the piece that makes it work.

If you want a screen and GPS without paying smartwatch money, Monday is the day to watch. If you need something today, the Fitbit Charge 6 is the closest thing on sale, and a Google Pixel Watch 3 is the step up if you want the full experience now. Given the Edge is three days out, most buyers in that middle tier are better off waiting for the official word.

We will have the full spec sheet, price and availability up as soon as Google makes the Edge official.
