A Narrower But Still Meaningful Update
Garmin's Q2 2026 software update is smaller than February's release, but it fills in several practical gaps across the current watch lineup and Edge cycling computers. The rollout started June 2, 2026, and includes six new features for watches and two for Edge devices.
Here's what is changing and which watches get left out.
Recovery Mode
Garmin is adding a Recovery Mode that automatically activates if the watch encounters trouble during a software update or has difficulty starting up. Rather than being stuck in a boot loop or needing a full reset, users get a troubleshooting path that could rescue the device without wiping it.
Watches with Recovery Mode: Venu X1, Venu 4, vivoactive 6, D2 Air X15, Forerunner 570, Forerunner 970, fēnix 8, fēnix 8 Pro, Enduro 3, tactix 8, quatix 8, quatix 8 Pro, D2 Mach 2, D2 Mach 2 Pro, and fēnix E.
The Instinct 3 does not get Recovery Mode in this update.
Health Status History
Health Status has been a popular Garmin feature since its launch, showing athletes a daily snapshot of how their body is handling training stress. This update adds a History component, letting users track their Health Status over time instead of seeing only the current reading.
The feature draws from five overnight metrics: resting heart rate, HRV, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and skin temperature. It compares those against your personal baseline so you can see whether things are trending up, down, or flat over weeks and months.
Watches with Health Status History: The same list as Recovery Mode above. Again, the Instinct 3 is notably absent.
Premium Golf Features Through Golf Membership
Garmin is continuing its push to bring premium golf tools to more non-Approach watches. The Venu 4, vivoactive 6, and D2 Air X15 now get access to Premium Golf Features through a Garmin Golf Membership. That includes full-color course maps, hazard distances, and shot tracking, all tied to the subscription.
The full list of watches supporting Premium Golf Features through a Golf Membership includes the Venu X1, Venu 4, vivoactive 6, D2 Air X15, fēnix 8, fēnix 8 Pro, Enduro 3, tactix 8, quatix 8, quatix 8 Pro, D2 Mach 2, D2 Mach 2 Pro, and fēnix E.
A notable omission: the Forerunner 570 and Forerunner 970 do not get Premium Golf Features, even with a Golf Membership.
Approach CT1 Tag Compatibility
Garmin's Approach CT1 tags are clip-on club sensors that automatically log which club you used on each shot and build stats over time, including average distance per club. This update brings CT1 compatibility to more watches.
Watches with Approach CT1 compatibility: Venu X1, Venu 4, vivoactive 6, D2 Air X15, Forerunner 570, Forerunner 970, fēnix 8, fēnix 8 Pro, Enduro 3, tactix 8, quatix 8, quatix 8 Pro, D2 Mach 2, and D2 Mach 2 Pro.
Instinct 3 Gets Its Own Features
The Instinct 3 does not get Recovery Mode or Health Status History, but it picks up several additions that are already present on Garmin's other platforms:
- Workout Execution Score — scores how closely you followed a planned workout
- Stocks Tracker — view stock prices on the watch face
- Mobility Activity — a dedicated activity profile for structured stretching and movement sessions
- Post-Activity Dive Guidance — guidance displayed after dive-related activities
The Instinct Crossover AMOLED gets Workout Execution Score, Stocks Tracker, and Mobility Activity. The Instinct E gets Stocks Tracker and Mobility Activity.
Edge: On-Device Gear Tracking and Bosch eBike Support
Garmin's Edge cycling computers receive two practical updates:
On-device gear tracking lets riders add, change, and remove gear directly from the Edge device, rather than managing everything through Garmin Connect. This covers bike setups, drivetrain components, wheels, tires, and even cycling shoe cleats, with wear progress bars and end-of-life alerts.
Bosch eBike smart system compatibility brings battery status, smart range routing, power, and cadence data to compatible eBikes on supported Edge computers.
Edge devices getting both updates: Edge MTB, Edge 540, Edge 840, Edge 1040, Edge 550, Edge 850, and Edge 1050.
Which Watches Miss Out This Quarter
The Venu 3, vivoactive 5, Forerunner 265, Forerunner 965, and the entire fēnix 7 range do not appear in the Q2 update. Some of those watches are under two years old and none of them are cheap.
Garmin has not explained the cut-off, though the pattern is consistent. The February Q1 update similarly excluded the fēnix 7 range, which suggests Garmin is drawing a firm line at the current-generation platform for new software features.
How to Get the Update
The Q2 2026 update began rolling out on June 2. Enable automatic updates on your watch or Edge to receive it, or update manually through Garmin Express or the Garmin Connect app.
