Garmin has released a significant stable software update—version 14.14—for the entire Instinct 3 series, including the Instinct 3 AMOLED, Instinct 3 Solar, and Instinct 3 E. After eight weeks of beta testing, the update is now rolling out globally with over a dozen refinements that touch nearly every part of the watch experience.
What's New in Version 14.14
Battery Life Estimate Improvements
One of the headline additions is improved battery life estimation when switching between power modes during activities. Garmin has historically offered solid battery metrics, but the estimates when dynamically changing settings mid-workout haven't always been accurate. This update refines those calculations, giving users a more reliable picture of how much runtime they have left based on their current GPS, sensor, and connectivity settings.
The Instinct 3 Solar model, already known for its unlimited battery life under the right conditions, benefits from these refinements too—making it easier to plan longer adventures without range anxiety.
Two New Glances
The update adds a pair of new glanceable data screens:
- Stocks Glance — Check your investment portfolio performance right from your wrist. A first for Garmin's rugged line, this opens the door for more lifestyle-oriented apps on the Instinct platform.
- Recovery Time Glance — A dedicated view for recovery status, building on the morning-readiness features Garmin has been expanding across its smartwatch lineup.
Morning Recovery Card
Building on the Morning Report feature introduced in earlier updates, the Instinct 3 now displays a dedicated Morning Recovery Card that gives you a consolidated view of sleep quality and readiness the moment you wake up. Combined with the existing recovery time data, users get a clearer picture of whether their body is ready for hard training or needs an easy day.
Mobility Application
A new Mobility app joins the Instinct 3's suite of built-in applications, offering a series of guided exercises aimed at improving joint mobility. This reflects Garmin's broader push to expand the Instinct 3 beyond pure endurance tracking into the overall fitness and recovery ecosystem.
Workout Execution Score
The update adds a Workout Execution Score feature that evaluates how well you executed your planned training session based on performance data. This builds on Garmin's trend of adding post-workout analytical tools that go beyond simple HR and GPS tracking.
Morning Report Enhancements
The Morning Report feature—already popular on the Fenix and Venu lines—receives a new related addition that ties in more closely with the recovery and sleep data the Instinct 3 collects. It's a nice quality-of-life addition for athletes using their watches as a daily training guide.
Bug Fixes and Stability Improvements
No major software update is complete without fixing what was broken:
- Navigation fix — A bug that caused destination routing issues when saving routes via the app has been resolved
- inReach messaging fix — Fixed an issue where message transmission to multiple inReach users would fail
- Interval workout crash fix — Users who rely heavily on interval workouts should see a notably more stable experience
- Larger activity file library improvements — Watches with large numbers of saved activities should no longer experience slowdowns and unresponsiveness when scrolling through history
How to Install
The update is rolling out automatically through Garmin Connect, but you can check manually:
- Press Menu on your Instinct 3
- Go to Settings → System → Software Update
- Select Check for Updates
Make sure your watch is connected to Garmin Connect and has a decent charge before installing.
Should You Update?
If you're running an Instinct 3 series watch, this update is worth installing as soon as it hits your device. The battery life estimate improvements alone make it easier to trust what your watch tells you about remaining runtime—especially important for anyone who switches between activity modes frequently during training or adventures.
The new health and fitness features (Recovery Time glance, Morning Recovery Card, Workout Execution Score, Mobility app) bring the Instinct 3 closer to feature parity with Garmin's more premium Fenix line, which is a strong signal that Garmin is continuing to invest in its rugged outdoor platform.
Beta 17.25 is also in the pipeline for the Venu 4 and Vivoactive 6, which shares some of the same codebase—so expect these refinements to trickle down to other mid-range Garmin watches in the coming weeks.
