Garmin made its fall feature update official on September 22, and the headline is a safety feature finally arriving on the company's everyday-wear line.
Fall detection is now available on the Venu 4. If the watch detects a hard fall, it sends a message with your live location to preset assistance contacts. You can leave it running all day or limit it to specific activities.

- Edge Enduro ride profile improvements. The Enduro profile now automatically detects and switches between climbing and descent modes.
The devices named by Garmin are the fenix 8 series, Forerunner 570, Forerunner 970, Venu 4 and vivoactive 6, plus compatible Edge computers. Updates are free and have started rolling out.
Why Fall Detection on the Venu Matters
Fall detection has been a glaring absence in Garmin's lineup for years, and this is the first time it has landed properly on a Garmin watch. That is a strange sentence to write about a company that sells to hikers, trail runners and mountaineers, but it is accurate.
The reason it matters on the Venu specifically, and not just on a Fenix, is who wears a Venu. The Fenix and Enduro lines go to athletes who are already risk-aware. Android Central reported that "Garmin is bringing fall detection to the Venu 6," and listed the Venu 6 among the devices getting the update in its summary. Newsbytes ran the same error, stating that the update includes "fall detection on the Venu 6."
There is no announced Venu 6. The error is not confined to those two sites either, because Android Central's copy was syndicated to aggregators that reproduced the Venu 6 name without checking it against Garmin's release.
The mistake is understandable. Garmin's Venu naming has become genuinely unpredictable: the line has run through numbered generations while also sprouting a Venu X1 with its own naming convention and a separate Venu Sq family. If you are working quickly and you know the line has moved through several numbers, Venu 6 does not sound wrong.
It is still the kind of error worth catching, because model numbers are the thing people search for. Someone reading that the Venu 6 is getting fall detection will go looking for a watch that does not exist, and the person searching for the actual update will find coverage pointing at the wrong device.
