Samsung is already testing the next Galaxy Watch, and it might arrive sooner than you think. Reports from TechRadar suggest the Galaxy Watch9 is in active development, which means an official announcement could be months away.
What the Rumors Say
The testing phase means Samsung is working on the hardware and software for the next generation. Right now, nothing is confirmed about specs or features. But looking at Samsung's pattern, we can make some educated guesses.
The Galaxy Watch8 came out in late 2025, so a Watch9 in late 2026 would fit the annual release cycle. Samsung usually announces new watches alongside their foldable phones, which get unveiled in July or August.
What Might Be New
If Samsung follows their usual playbook, the Galaxy Watch9 could bring improvements in a few areas.
The processor might get faster. Every generation brings a new chip, and Samsung has been pushing harder on on-device AI features. A quicker processor helps those features run smoothly without killing battery.
Health sensors could expand. Samsung has been adding new health monitoring capabilities with each generation. Blood pressure monitoring, sleep tracking, and heart rate sensors have all improved over time.
Battery life matters a lot for runners. The current Galaxy Watch8 gets good battery life, but there is always room for improvement, especially for people who track multi-hour activities.
Should You Wait?
Here is the honest answer. If you need a watch now, buy what is available. The Galaxy Watch8 is a solid device, and prices will likely drop when the Watch9 arrives. But if you are on the fence, waiting a few months might get you something meaningfully better.
For runners specifically, Samsung Pay integration and GPS accuracy are the features I would watch most closely. Those make or break a running watch experience.
